We asked Juliet to talk about the unique relationships she shares with her dogs, Tanner and Scout. The result is a post that celebrates both the deep bond between owner and pet.
Unique Dogs with Unique Stories
I fell into the world of animal rescue when I was 8 years old. After volunteering at a cat shelter for three years, my family and I adopted our first rescue pet, a blind cat named Ray. Ever since then, my love for animals has grown and I have jumped in with both feet, adopting two amazing additions to the family, Tanner and Scout. We learned about our sweet dog, Tanner, when we heard he was left alone with his brother in a fish hatchery at just eight weeks old because his owner didn’t want to pay for vet bills. When we brought Tanner home he was very shy and reserved. Due to Tanner’s lack of socialization, it was a long road to get him where he is today. Every small step he has taken, whether it be taking his first walk, to the first time he went into the vet on his own, to the first time he ate a full meal—all were special and amazing experiences. As for our second dog, we first saw Scout’s picture after she was pulled from our city shelter, when her owner dropped her off at just four weeks old because he was having a hard time selling her with a deformed paw.
These two dogs have shaped my life in more ways than I could have ever imagined. They’ve instilled a passion for animal rescue that I carry with me every day, and their personalities continue to surprise me in so many ways. Scout and Tanner have taught me that everyone deserves second chances and just because someone has a unique trait or difference doesn’t mean that they can’t love the same. Even though my life is busy as a full-time student and working part-time, I make sure to set aside special parts of my day for each dog. Whether that’s a walk, a game of fetch in the backyard, or feeding them dinner, each moment is special to me.
Tanner & Scout, #DogsofJustRight
Seeing as our dogs have come from such tough backgrounds, we thought they would gulp their food up during every meal. However, that wasn’t the case and we tried for three years to find the right food for Scout and Tanner to enjoy. We knew we found a winner when we discovered Just Right® by Purina®. I personalized Scout’s blend without grains and with lamb as her primary protein, and Tanner’s personalized blend is also grain free but with salmon as a primary protein – two different blends to cater to their individual needs. When we first gave them Just Right® we didn’t know what to expect, but they both ate every single kibble and we couldn’t have been more thrilled! Tanner and Scout are now thriving in our forever home and enjoying every meal time. My life wouldn’t be the same without these two, and I am so glad that I was able to give them the love they deserve!
And while grain free lamb and salmon blends are ideal for Tanner and Scout, your dog has his own individual nutritional needs and preferences. Create your dog’s personalized blend of dog food with Just Right® by Purina®.
